The quiet, unassuming community of Mesa is a gateway to Grand Mesa, the world's largest flattop mountain. Visitors will enjoy panoramic views stretching from valley floor to the mesa top as they tour the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway (highway 65), which winds past bucolic scenes that appear ripped from a postcard. Fruit orchards, open fields and fluttering aspens fill the landscape as the byway climbs to 10,000 feet.
In downtown Mesa, be sure to stop at Blink Coffee Company across from the post office for that great cup of coffee, espresso drinks, teas, smoothies, baked goods, made to order sandwiches, soup and fun retail. There are additional small gift shops, Mesa Grande Mexican restaurant and a general store which will supply travel necessaries if you are passing thru. Stop into any store with the Byway Logo for a brochure on the Grand Mesa scenic Byway self-guided driving tour. On the outskirts of town are acres of open space and miles of trails. In addition, on top of the Mesa are more than 200 lakes buried within picturesque pine & aspen forests. There are opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping, biking, and just about any other outdoor adventure. In winter, skiers head to nearby Powderhorn resort or head to one of several area cross-country trails.
